Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

Wasn’t really sure when to add this to the Media Thread, but I got Super Sonic and Super Shining so I’ll say that’s good enough for now. Still working on getting all the achievements, I mostly just need more tickets to buy stickers and do friendship stuff.

For the most part, I’ve always considered Mario Kart Double Dash to be my favorite racing game, it’s the one I grew up with and I just really love playing it. I never really got into 8 personally. I don’t own Mario Kart World, but I have played it with friends before. Personally, I think it’s just alright, though Knockout Tour is a very fun game mode.

After playing CrossWorlds, I think it might be my new favorite. I’ve loved it since I first played the Open Network Test. I spent a lot of time in the demo just farming tickets and getting as many achievements as I could before the full game released. I like the roster, I think it has a good set of courses, and I think most of the music is great as well. The gadget system is very good as well, I like being able to have different setups to change up how I approach races, like a set that focuses on drifting or one that takes advantage of slipstreams. The spin drift gadget has become a favorite of mine because it’s just fun to spin around.

Some complaints I have with the game would be:

  • Race Park doesn’t really have any alternative game modes that I think are quite as fun as MKW’s Knockout Tour.

  • The DLC characters not being voiced at all, it just feels oddly quiet when playing as the werehog.

  • Some items feel a bit too good? It might just be a skill issue, but the rocket punches taking away 50 rings on hit seems crazy to me. The slime also does a lot of things all in one, obscuring your view, slowing you down, messing with the controls by making you rotate the stick to clear it, and taking away your items.

  • No way to delete custom cars for some reason. I accidentally made a bunch that I didn’t want to, and sure you can just ignore them, but I just don’t like the clutter of having a bunch of random cars in the selection screen.
